Niall Tormey

Niall Tormey wasthe recipient of the inaugural Irish Heritage Music Bursary for Composition in 2019. He subsequently graduated with a Masters in Composition from the National University of Ireland - Maynooth,
His successful composition, “Give me your hand and come what may” for flute and harp,received its world premiere at an Irish Heritage concert in the Princess Alexandra Hall in London in April 2019. He won the 2020 West Cork Chamber Music Festival composition competition for his piece “Kreatura” for string quartet.
Twenty-nine year-old Niall who was born in Nottingham and moved to Ireland when he was 10, lives in Killucan, County Westmeath. He received a Batchelor of Music degree from NUI Maynooth.
Niall has had 15 of his pieces performed on two continents. In addition, he was shortlisted for the ALS choral competition in 2015, he was a semi-finalist in the John Kuzma award for excellence in choral composition in 2016 and longlisted for the Cantando Quartet Composition Competition in 2017.
