Composition Winner Announced
10 April 2024
We are very pleased to announce the winner of the Music Bursary for Composition. Harry O’Connor’s Opus impressed our judges to take the award. We are so grateful to the Ireland Funds of GB for sponsoring this bursary. Harry graduated from the MTU Cork School of Music in 2021 with a First Class Honours BMus (Hons) degree. He is currently undertaking an MSt in Music (Composition) at the University of Oxford. He has had several of his works performed at concerts in Ireland and the UK by professional ensembles and soloists alike, and in 2022 received his first commission. As a performer, Harry has been involved with various groups and performers across a spectrum of genres, particularly in baroque and contemporary music. Harry commented:
I am very grateful to Irish Heritage for selecting me for this bursary. Having the opportunity to study music at Oxford is an incredible and unique experience, but it is not without cost. This bursary has eased the expense of my course fees and has meant that I have been able to focus more on engaging with the course and the music community in general, whilst living here in the UK. The support offered by Irish Heritage is of great help to Irish musicians, and I want to reaffirm my thanks to the organisation for their generosity.
