Countdown to “Christmas by Candlelight” Concert underway

9 December 2020

The countdown is underway to the broadcast of Irish Heritage’s annual “Christmas by Candlelight” Concert.

The Covid-19 restrictions meant that the popular concert, which usually takes place in Handel’s Church, St George’s in Hanover Square in London’s West End, has had to go virtual for 2020.

Thanks to the support of His Excellency, the Ambassador of Ireland, Adrian O’Neill and his colleagues, Irish Heritage was able to record the concert in the Embassy of Ireland in Grosvenor Place on Monday (7th December).

Five Irish Heritage bursary recipients combined with one artist each from the charity’s friends at the Royal Dublin Society and the Wexford Opera Festival Factory, to perform a programme of music that reflects the spirit of Christmas.

The recorded material is currently being edited and will result in a 40 minute concert that will be available to view free of charge on the Irish Heritage website and YouTube channel from next Monday afternoon (14th December).

Mollie Wrafter, recipient of Irish Heritages 2019/20 Music Bursary for Performance, records her solo contribution for the concert.
